How to stylishly pin up the net curtains?

The density and the method of pinning up depends on the style we are using. Generally smooth and uniform net curtains are used. Without any pattern. Often made from natural fabrics. Eco style – linen, or natural cotton.

Glamour, ethnic style net curtains are made from silk with added golden and silver threads. Crystal accessories. Bright net curtains are being left behind replaced by darker, more intensively colored ones.

Stripes, that is joining of two or more shades of net curtains, are very fashionable. As for the density of pinning up, apart from the retro style (emulating elegant palace pinning up), the natural, urban styles are dominated by sparse pinning up.

Currently reigning length – to the ground or longer, draperies around the windows are very stylish.

The amount of the needed fabric can be estimated : width – we measure the length of the curtain rail and multiply from 1,5 up to 3 lengths of the rail, depending on how dense the folds are supposed to be. The length of the curtain is estimated by measuring the distance between the rail and the floor. We deduct 12 mm if we want the curtain to not touch the floor and add from 5 to 20cm if the fabric is supposed to fold on the floor. When a curtain rod is used measurements have to be taken in certain distance below the rod.

Types of net curtains

One of the basic things that every interior designer learns how net curtains and hangings influence a room. Correctly chosen and matching the rest of the design the net curtains may produce a terrific effect. Luckily we live in the times, when shelves in the shops are bending under the weight of merchandise and the selection is enormous. That is why before deciding it would be wise to familiarize oneself with at least basic types of net curtains. Here are the 3 most popular types:

Jacquard – strong and thick fabric invented by a Frenchman J.M. Jacquard. It blocks the sunlight perfectly. The fabric alone is available only in a few colors: beige, cream, ecru and white. There are no limits however on the colors of the patterns, and the selection is truly vast. Depending on the kind and ingredients some fabrics from this group may even attested as non-flammable.

Organza- thin and delicate, semi-translucent fabric. Sunlight is blocked only partially, creating the “mist” effect. With these kinds of fabrics often are present different kinds of embroideries, drawings and glittering. It has a decorative role.

Voile – a fabric looking similarly to organza. It is however considerably thicker.

Having this in mind one can focus on a particular solution. If we have animals living in our home like cats or birds I can recommend net curtains made from a creased fabric. The effects of a potential cat climbing or bird landing can be easily removed by stretching the damaged fragment and visible threads will disappear. Thanks to the fabric’s texture these effects however will not be visible at all. If we decide on net curtains made from a glossy fabric it will brighten the room. If we add golden elements, the room will become warmer.
